Learn MoreNORCROSS - (Monday, August 9, 2010 at 4:49 a.m.) Firefighters responded to an occupant report of a house fire in the 5500 block of Sapelo Trail in Norcross. A woman and her adult son were in the house at the time of the fire and were alerted by the smell of smoke. The man discovered the back deck and enclosed porch burning. The two safely escaped and called 9-1-1 to summons the fire department.
On arrival, crews found heavy fire showing from the back of the two-story wood frame house on a basement. Flames were already shooting from the roof as initial companies stretched water supply and attack lines Firefighters made immediate entry to conduct a search and battle the blaze. An additional engine was special called to the scene for extra staffing and resources.
The fire appears to have originated from the back of the house. The exact cause is currently undetermined under investigation. The fire caused extensive damage to the home. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance for the displaced occupants. There were no injuries reported.
EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: Company-4, Engine-1, Engine-19, Engine-11, Squad-20, Air-9, Medic-4, MS-1, Battalion-1, Battalion-4, Arson-4, and Car-10/PIO.
