Learn More(Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 04:30 AM) Gwinnett County Police officers responded to a traffic accident at Jimmy Carter Blvd. and Corley Road at about 04:30 AM on 07/21/11. Due to the seriousness of the accident, the Accident Investigation Unit was called to the scene. They discovered the following:
Driver 1 (Chanae Woodards, 21 year old female) was headed east on Jimmy Carter Blvd. near Corley Road and intended to continue east. Vehicle 1 was a black 1997 Honda CRV. Driver 2 (Frank Twum, 20 year old male) was stopped in the turn lane headed west on Jimmy Carter Blvd. and intended to turn south on to Corley Road. Vehicle 2 was a black 1997 Toyota Camry. Driver 1 was negotiating a curved portion of the road, swerved into the center turn lane and struck vehicle 2 head on.
The front passenger of vehicle 1 (Starkesha Magee, 24 year old female) was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center where she later died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the collision. The rear passenger of vehicle 1 (Courtney Watts, 23 year old female) was also transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of vehicle 1 and driver of vehicle 2 were both transported to North Fulton Hospital with minor injuries.
Upon Woodards' release from the hospital, she was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide in the 1st degree, DUI, and failure to maintain lane. She remains in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
