(Saturday March 5, 2011 @ approximately 10:23 pm) The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is currently investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian. The accident occurred near the intersection of Buford Highway and Jimmy Carter Blvd. This is an area of unincorporated Norcross in Gwinnett County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a pedestrian was walking south on Buford Highway just south of the intersection at Jimmy Carter Blvd. Vehicle 2, a black 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 22 year old Jesus Cruz-Colmenares was traveling south on Buford Highway in the right lane. The pedestrian stepped off the curb into the path of Vehicle 2 and was struck. The pedestrian died on scene as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision. It appears that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway in an area that does not have a marked crosswalk. At this time no charges have been made regarding this accident and the investigation continues.

The pedestrians next of kin has been notified and she has been identified as 44 year old Sherri D. Parker of Thomasville, Georgia.
