Fatal Vehicle Accident - UPDATE

(Sunday, February 21st, 2009 @ 1:50 AM)  Gwinnett County Police Officers responded to a call regarding a vehicle on fire in the woods off the shoulder of I-985 southbound, inside the Gwinnett County Line.  The responding officers found the reported vehicle fully engulfed in flames. 

The vehicle involved has been identified as a Honda CRX.  The vehicle had two occupants, both of which have died as a result of the vehicle accident and fire. 

The Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit is currently in the process of identifying the two occupants of the vehicle.  Once they are identified and their families are notified, their names will be released.  

It is unknown what caused the accident at this time; however speed may have been a factor.  It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol was a factor in this accident at this time.  This is an active investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The driver and passenger who died in the motor vehicle accident have been identified as 23 year-old, Paul Keys III and 19 year-old, Shawn keys. Both were from Flowery Branch, Ga.

Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigators have established that the victim's vehicle was possibly engaged in some form of race with a Chevrolet pick-up truck.  A witness to this fact describes the driver of that vehicle as a male of Hispanic descent.  Anyone with information concerning this event, or any witnesses having observed the victims' vehicle and / or the associated Chevrolet pick-up are asked to call the Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit at 770-338-7430 ext 5673.
