(Lawrenceville, Ga., Apr. 10, 2026) - At approximately 2:30 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a commercial structure fire at the GSL Transfer Station, located at 535 Seaboard Industrial Drive NE in Lawrenceville. Gwinnett County 911 received multiple calls reporting a rapidly growing garbage fire inside a warehouse.
Fire crews arrived on scene at 2:38 p.m. and encountered a significant volume of trash burning within the structure. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed with facility personnel that all occupants had safely evacuated before their arrival. Crews quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack, deploying multiple hose lines and utilizing two elevated master streams from ladder trucks. Due to the volume of fire, firefighters closed Seaboard Industrial Drive to support operations with water from two hydrants. The Aviation Unit from the Gwinnett County Police Department assisted firefighters by monitoring the surrounding area for any spot fires caused by flying embers.
The incident presented several operational challenges, including a downed power line, a deep-seated fire within large debris piles, structural components exposed to prolonged heat, and nearby hazards involving liquid petroleum gas (LPG) tanks and a diesel fuel reservoir.
Once crews brought the fire under control at approximately 6:05 p.m., firefighters utilized two commercial excavators to assist with removing smoldering debris.
One adult was transported to Northside Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A second adult was evaluated and released on scene. No additional injuries were reported. According to employees, the fire originated from a small trash fire near the edge of the warehouse. Workers attempted to remove the burning debris before the fire rapidly intensified. Firefighters on the scene determined the fire was accidental.
This remains an active incident, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
