Learn More(Norcross, Ga., November 2, 2015) – Gwinnett County firefighters responded on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 10:54a.m., to a report of flooding at the Jones RV and Mobile Home Park, on Willow Trail Parkway in (unincorporated) Norcross. The flooding was discovered by a Gwinnett County police officer who was patrolling the area. The officer checked the back of the park, which has been prone to flooding in the past during heavy periods of rain. It is believed that water from nearby (rain-swollen) Beaver Ruin Creek may have contributed to the flooding conditions.
Police officers and firefighters went door-to-door to conduct the evacuation of thirty-home sites affected by the flood waters. An estimated 20-plus people were able to walk through the water to safer ground. Police carried several children through the water, which was estimated to be waist-high (4-foot deep) in a few spots. A small dog was also removed from one of the homes. There were no injuries reported. One resident told police that his home had about an inch of water inside. No other damage was reported to responders at the scene. The majority of home sites experienced water up to the under-pinning and trailer skirt, but did not penetrate the living space.
Firefighters secured gas and electrical utilities to the affected homes before leaving the scene around 1p.m. Residents in the affected homes will not be able to return until the water level recedes and the utilities are restored.
