Good Samaritan Intervenes in Fight and is Shot, Suspect Identified, Warrants Obtained

(Lawrenceville, Georgia) Gwinnett County Police detectives have identified 24 year old Deshawn Poole as the person who shot Thomas Rushworth at the Tavern at Medlock this past weekend. Warrants have been obtained against him for Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. His whereabouts are unknown. The involved parties were 22 year old Germikia Williams, 21 year old Destiny Lopez, and 23 year old Roland Hines. Williams is wanted for Failure to Appear.  Lopez and Hines are wanted for Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act. Rushworth is still in critical condition.

  

(Peachtree Corners, Georgia) 06/21/16 12:24 pm Gwinnett County Police are actively searching for a person who shot a man who intervened in a fight in the parking lot of the Tavern at Medlock located at 3230 Medlock Bridge Road. Police responded to the location June 18 shortly before 1 am. According to witnesses, there were two different couples having a heated dispute in the parking lot. At some point, the victim intervened in the altercation and was shot in the head. The victim has been identified as 45 year old Thomas Rushworth from Duluth. He is listed in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center.

Detectives are following several leads in the investigation but have not made an arrest. The suspect is described as a 20 year old, 5’6” black male with short dread locks. He was last seeing fleeing the area on foot with a female. The pair ran towards The Country Club Village Apartment Complex behind the restaurant. If you were a patron at the restaurant during that time frame please come forward with any information. This is a very unfortunate situation and detectives are working very hard to apprehend the suspect who committed this senseless act of violence.
