Learn More(Lawrenceville, Ga., June 30, 2026) – Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson was recently appointed as Board Chair for the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, expanding the County’s influence in critical water planning issues across the region.
In her new role, she leads the body responsible for long-range water planning across the 15-county metro Atlanta region, including Bartow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale.
The appointment highlights Gwinnett’s ongoing leadership in regional resource management.
In 2022, Gwinnett and two neighboring counties officially secured a historic water storage agreement with the state of Georgia that guarantees long-term access to water from Lake Lanier and the Chattahoochee River. While this agreement guarantees the water supply for Gwinnett, regional collaboration dictates how the water is protected and shared.
Chairwoman Hendrickson said that the appointment ensures that Gwinnett maintains a prominent seat at the regional table as the County continues its commitment to stewardship, sustainability and future planning.
“Water infrastructure and resource planning are foundational to our economic competitiveness, quality of life and ability to accommodate continued growth responsibly,” said Hendrickson. “I'm honored to serve in this role and look forward to working alongside our regional partners to ensure today's planning strengthens our communities and supports the region's future.”
Chairwoman Hendrickson has served on the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District board since 2021. She was appointed Vice Chair in 2023 before being elected Board Chair in 2026.
