(Lawrenceville, GA) As part of National Police Week, the Gwinnett County Police Department will conduct a memorial ceremony Tuesday, May 15 to remember its officers killed in the line of duty.

The Gwinnett County Police Department has lost four officers in the line of duty. Officers Marvin Gravitt, Jerry Everett and Ralph Davis were fatally shot on April 17, 1964, after responding to a suspicious activity call. Investigation found that as they responded to the call, they encountered several people stripping a car. Their bodies were found the next day in a wooded area near their patrol vehicle. Three suspects were arrested, convicted, and sentenced to death; however their sentences were later commuted to life in prison.
Officer Chris Magill was killed May 23, 1993 when his patrol vehicle was struck by a drunk driver on I-85. He was waiting in his police car for a tow truck to arrive on scene when the collision occurred.
The 20 minute memorial service is set for 10:00am at the GCPD Training Center at 854 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.
