(December 17, 2014, Lawrenceville, Georgia) The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a traffic accident that occurred on I 85 South near Jimmy Carter Blvd. on December 15, 2013 at about 4:30 P.M.  A black Ford Explorer was traveling south on I 85 in the center lane when a champagne or tan color taxi cut the Explorer off.  The driver of the Explorer swerved to avoid the taxi.  The driver lost control and the vehicle rolled several times.  The taxi stopped on the side of the interstate, but fled the scene before officers arrived.  The occupants of the Explorer were transported to local hospitals.

Witnesses claimed the taxi was at fault in the accident for cutting off the Explorer (unsafe lane change).  Investigators do not believe there was contact between the two vehicles.  No one was able to provide a tag number or information on the taxi company.  Anyone with information on the taxi or this case is asked to call Inv.
