Mattie's Call

(Wednesday, April 28, 2010 @ Approximately 7:00 PM) The Gwinnett County Police Department was contacted by a relative of an elderly man believed to have Alzheimer's.  It was reported that this individual had failed to return home after driving away driving away earlier in the day.    The missing man had last been seen at his residence in the 3900 block of Spalding Bluff Drive.  This residence is located in an unincorporated area of Gwinnett County Associated with Norcross.

At approximately 7:00 PM, persons concerned with the welfare of Marion Foy Thompson, an 80 year old male believed to have Alzheimer's, contacted the Gwinnett County Police Department to report that Thompson had failed to return to his residence after leaving earlier in the day.  Thompson was last known to be home at approximately 1:00 PM when his wife spoke with him by telephone.  He was discovered missing from the residence at approximately 6:00 PM when his wife returned home from work.  Thompson is believed to have driven away from his residence during the intervening time.  Thompson is believed to be operating a 2005 silver colored Buick Terraza Van.  The van bears Georgia License plate "352 RPN."  It is unknown what clothing he was wearing when he left the residence.  He is described as an 80 year-old white male, standing approximately5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds.  He has gray hair and blue eyes and wears glasses.  Thompson does not have any facial hair or readily distinguishing markings.  It is possible, but not confirmed, that Thompson may have been attempting to travel to the Duluth area when he left the residence.

Anyone with knowledge of, or encountering Thompson is asked to call 911 or the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5300 or 5100 immediately.  At the time of this release, a request for a Mattie's Call has been made with the GBI.
