SUGARLOAF MILLS MALL SHOOTING UPDATE #4

UPDATE #4:  On December 18, Anthony Lovett was arrested on three counts of Aggravated Assault. 

 

UPDATE #3:  On December 13, detectives have charged Anthony Lovett (20, Lithonia) with three counts of aggravated assault.  Lovett is not in custody at this time. 

 

UPDATE #2:  On September 11, Ethan Dumas turned himself into the Gwinnett County Jail.  If anyone has any further information to provide on the incident to contact Gwinnett County Police Detectives. 

 

UPDATE #1: (Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 8, 2023) – Detectives have obtained warrants for Ethan Dumas (20 years old, Decatur) in the Sugarloaf Mills Mall shooting.  Dumas is charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage to Property in the First Degree, Terroristic Threats and Acts, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Reckless Conduct.

Dumas’ location is currently unknown.  He is 5 feet 11 inches and weighs approximately 170 pounds.  He currently no longer has dreadlocks.  If anyone has any information, call Gwinnett Detectives at 770.513.5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404.577.8477.

 

ORIGINAL: (Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 10, 2023) – Gwinnett County Police detectives are investigating a shooting that that occurred at Sugarloaf Mills Mall.

On Saturday, August 5, at approximately 7:09 p.m., officers working at the mall heard a few gunshots and immediately started pushing towards the gunfire.  Multiple officers quickly responded as patrons were fleeing from inside the mall and calling 911 about a possible active shooter.  Officers located a victim who was not injured and several witnesses to the incident.

Detectives have determined there was an argument between two suspects and an employee of a shoe kiosk inside the mall.  The argument turned into a physical confrontation and one or both suspects fired shots at the victim.  No one was wounded by the gunfire.  One suspect was wearing black pants, black t-shirt, had short hair and was carrying a backpack.  The other suspect was wearing white or tan shorts, a black t-shirt, and had slightly longer hair.

The incident was frightening and caused immediate panic among the patrons of the mall.  The incident was an isolated argument and was not an active shooter.  Detectives are asking for help in identifying the suspects that created this frantic chaos and put the community at risk who were trying to enjoy their Saturday evening.
