Learn More(Friday, April 9th, 2010 @approximately 2:30 AM) Gwinnett County Police SWAT responded to assist the City of Lilburn Police Department with a potential hostage situation. On this date, the Gwinnett County Police SWAT Team responded at the request of the Lilburn Police Department. The precipitating incident, involving the possible abduction of two adult females, occurred within the city of Lilburn and had evolved into a possible hostage situation within that same jurisdiction.
At approximately 2:30 AM, the City of Lilburn Police Department contacted the Gwinnett County Police Department Communications Division and requested the assistance of the Department's SWAT Team in resolving a potential abduction and hostage situation. Gwinnett County Police SWAT Team Tactical Officers, Hostage Negotiators and Technical and Support Personnel immediately responded to the scene to assist. Upon their arrival and subsequent briefing by Lilburn Police Officers, SWAT Team leaders learned that two females had apparently been abducted and held within an abandoned apartment. Since being held, one female victim had escaped. She had contacted the police about the incident, reporting that one female victim remained, possibly restrained, within the apartment. At that time it was unknown if the abductor still remained with the hostage, in the apartment, or if he had fled the scene.
Due to the nature of the reported incident and the potential threat manifest in a hostage situation, the SWAT Team took immediate action and deployed numerous resources at their disposal. Consequently, the situation was quickly and peacefully resolved. The victim was found bound, but unharmed within the apartment. At the time the Team made entry, the suspect was no longer present within the apartment. The City of Lilburn Police Department continues to investigate this matter.
