Learn More(Snellville, Ga., Dec. 13, 2023) – An Athens woman has been charged with Shoplifting after officers found several thousand dollars of stolen merchandise in her vehicle following a traffic stop.
On December 4, officers assigned to the Bay Creek Precinct were dispatched to a shoplifting call at the Victoria’s Secret on Scenic Highway in unincorporated Snellville. The suspect left the store before officers arrived.
On December 6, an officer visited the store to gather more information about the suspect. Together, they planned to conduct additional surveillance, waiting to see if the suspect would return.
On December 11, the suspect returned to Victoria’s Secret. Though nothing was stolen during this visit, the suspect was seen entering a nearby Bath and Body Works a short time later. She was carrying a large tote bag that appeared empty. After approximately five minutes, the woman is seen leaving the store with her tote bag filled with merchandise.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and took the woman into custody. After initially providing a false name, it was discovered that Leta Davis had outstanding warrants from Barrow, Cherokee, and Cobb counties for other shoplifting charges and was currently on probation. During an inventory of her vehicle, officers located several trash bags of merchandise from Victoria’s Secret and Bath and Body Works valued at several thousand dollars. Officers are also following up with another nearby store to see if they are also the victims of shoplifting.
Leta Davis was placed under arrest and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail. She was charged with Theft by Shoplifting, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Giving a False Name, and misdemeanor Obstruction.
Officers will coordinate with other metro Atlanta agencies and retail stores to see if Davis could be responsible for additional crimes.
