Memorial Day and Veterans Day at the Fallen Heroes Memorial

The Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial serves as the backdrop for Gwinnett County’s annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. Twice a year, we gather as a community to pay tribute to the brave servicemembers who have dedicated their lives to serving our country.

Join us Monday, May 26, 2025, at 1:00pm for our Memorial Day ceremony and Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 11:00am for our Veterans Day ceremony.

The Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial, a place of quiet reflection and poignant symbolism, is a space where we can pause to acknowledge the debt we owe to those who have defended our freedoms.

Memorial Day

On Memorial Day — the last Monday of each May — we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We recall their names, their faces, and the lives they lived. The ceremony at the Fallen Heroes Memorial is imbued with a sense of solemnity, as we honor the fallen and comfort the families they left behind. The program includes remarks by community leaders, a keynote address by a veteran, a three-volley salute, and a wreath laying, each gesture a symbol of our enduring respect.

On Memorial Day, the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial also expands its solemn roll call as we officially induct any fallen heroes who have either made the ultimate sacrifice in the preceding year or whose historical connection to Gwinnett County has been newly discovered. These names, permanently inscribed upon the memorial stones, serve as a lasting tribute and ensure that their sacrifice is forever remembered within our community

Veterans Day

At the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, the major hostilities of World War I formally ended when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. We now celebrate Veterans Day each year on November 11, honoring not only WWI veterans, but all those who have served our country through military service.

The Veterans Day ceremony at the Fallen Heroes Memorial is a time for shared stories, recognition of service, and a collective expression of gratitude. Remarks by local officials and a keynote speaker highlight the courage, duty, and honor with which our military heroes serve. We acknowledge the diverse experiences of our veterans, from those who served in past conflicts to those currently serving, and we reaffirm our commitment to supporting them and their families.

Our Year-Round Commitment

We believe it is our duty to ensure that the sacrifices of our military and public service heroes are never forgotten. Gwinnett County Government is proud to host these ceremonies, providing a space for our community to come together and express their appreciation.

However, our commitment to veterans extends beyond these two annual ceremonies. Gwinnett County Government supports numerous initiatives and programs aimed at assisting veterans and their families. We recognize the challenges they face and strive to provide resources and support to help them thrive.

We encourage you to visit the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial throughout the year. It serves as a constant reminder of the price of freedom and the enduring legacy of those who have served.

Let us never forget the sacrifices made — and let us always strive to be a community worthy of their service.
