In 2025, Gwinnett County's Community Outreach division was restructured, aiming to enhance community connection and empowerment.
Muriam Nafees has been appointed as the new Civic Engagement and Social Impact division director, bringing her extensive experience in community outreach and volunteer program development. Nafees previously transformed Volunteer Gwinnett into a nationally recognized program and has a proven track record of driving impactful community initiatives.
The Civic Engagement and Social Impact Division now manages programs like the Gwinnett 101 Citizens Academy and the Gwinnett Youth Commission, and organizes community events, including annual heritage month celebrations such as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Black History Month, Hispanic Latino Heritage Month, and Pride Month.
The division also focuses on community and business collaboration, volunteer initiatives like Volunteer Gwinnett and Gwinnett Serves, and mobile food distributions. Civic Engagement and Social Impact’s overall mission is to foster civic opportunities that promote inclusivity and engagement across all demographics within Gwinnett County.
