Georgia’s annual outdoor burning ban takes effect Thursday, May 1.
This ban, set by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, is state law and will remain in effect until September 30.
For 20 years, the ban has prohibited residents and businesses from burning yard and land-clearing debris during the summer ozone season. According to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, this is done to help prevent unhealthy levels of pollutants from settling in the air throughout the state.
Recreational and cooking fires are not included in the summer burn ban.
Please call Gwinnett County’s non-emergency line at 770.513.5700 if you suspect someone is improperly burning.
