Gwinnett County welcomed the International Walk for Peace during a visit to Wat Lao Buddha Khanti temple, joining communities around the world in recognizing the Walk’s mission of unity, compassion, and peace.
Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson participated in the event alongside spiritual leaders and community members. During the visit, the Chairwoman presented a proclamation recognizing the International Walk for Peace and its global effort to connect communities through shared humanity.
The Chairwoman also presented a Key to the County to Phra Ajarn Maha Dam Phommasan, recognizing his leadership and perseverance after he lost his leg when he was hit by a car in Houston, Texas, earlier in the Walk’s journey.
“It was an honor to welcome the Walk for Peace to Gwinnett County and to recognize Phra Ajarn Maha Dam Phommasan,” said Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. “This visit reflects the spirit of compassion and respect that brings our community together.”
Phra Ajarn Maha Dam Phommasan has continued to carry forward the Walk’s message of peace despite his injury.
"I have no regret for joining the Walk for Peace,” said Phra Ajarn Maha Dam Phommasan. “I would still make the same decision even if I knew something bad was going to happen because it has always been a dream of mine to promote and spread world peace along with the other Walk for Peace veneral monks. We are united in spreading peace, loving kindness and compassion."
The International Walk for Peace continues its journey with a final stop in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.
