The Gwinnett County Police Department has launched Toney’s Program, a new educational and mentorship initiative developed with Gwinnett County Juvenile Court, Administrative Office of the Courts, Child Advocacy and Juvenile Services, and View Point Health. The program is named in memory of Officer Antwan Toney, badge number 1808, who was killed in the line of duty in 2018.

Toney’s Program supports juveniles charged with first-time or minor handgun offenses. Participants complete a seven-week course followed by three months of mentorship, pairing each youth with a volunteer mentor who offers guidance and accountability as they work toward safer decisions.

Family involvement is central to the program. Parents and guardians attend sessions alongside their child to strengthen support at home. Participants also hear from survivors and families impacted by gun violence and learn conflict resolution and communication skills from mental health professionals.

The first cohort graduated on November 4, 2025, and the next sessions will begin in January 2026. This initiative underscores Gwinnett County’s ongoing commitment to helping young people make positive choices and building a safer community for all.
