Gwinnett expands glass recycling pilot program
Gwinnett County and Waste Pro USA, Inc., have teamed up to expand the pilot glass recycling program with the opening of a second drop-off location at Pinckneyville Park in Peachtree Corners.
The pilot glass recycling program provides residents with the opportunity to drop off glass for safe and sustainable recycling.
This is part of Gwinnett County’s initiative to increase recycling and sustainability to help protect our environment and natural resources. One of the many benefits of glass recycling is more landfill space. Instead of glass being tossed in trash bins, manufacturers can reuse it to make items like kitchen tiles and insulation.
Residents can bring their clean, empty glass containers to either of the following locations:
- OneStop Norcross, located at 5030 Georgia Belle Court in Norcross
- Pinckneyville Park, located by the baseball/softball complex at 4758 South Old Peachtree Road in Peachtree Corners
The clearly marked drop-off containers are available 24 hours a day at OneStop Norcross and from sunrise until 11:00pm at Pinckneyville Park unless posted otherwise.
Dropped-off glass will be hauled to Strategic Materials, Inc., a large glass recycler in the Atlanta area. Acceptable glass items are clear and colored food and beverage bottles and jars.
Gwinnett participates in the Hefty® EnergyBag® program
Gwinnett County is now participating in the Hefty® EnergyBag® Program to give residents an opportunity to dispose of hard-to-recycle plastics in a sustainable way.
The Hefty® EnergyBag® Program complements the current unincorporated Gwinnett County curbside recycling program. This program helps residents recycle plastics not part of the list of acceptable items such as #4 through #7 plastics, plastic bags and wraps, foam, plastic dinnerware, and many other plastic items.
Gwinnett residents can drop off their full Hefty® EnergyBag® orange bags at WestRock, located at 384 Maltbie Street in Lawrenceville Monday through Saturday from 7:00am to 2:00pm. Only Hefty® EnergyBag® orange bags will be accepted at this site.
Plastics #1 and #2 — which include items like water and soda bottles, milk jugs, juice containers, shampoo bottles, and detergent holders — will continue to be accepted curbside. Hefty® EnergyBag® orange bags are available for purchase at Kroger stores and the Hefty® website.
Who can participate? Residents of unincorporated and incorporated Gwinnett County.
What can go into the Hefty® EnergyBag® orange bags? View the printable Hefty® EnergyBag® Recycling Guide (PDF).
Can I put the Hefty® EnergyBag® orange bag in my curbside recycling container? Not at this time. You can take the Hefty® EnergyBag® orange bag to the drop off location at WestRock, located at 384 Maltbie Street in Lawrenceville Monday through Saturday from 7:00am to 2:00pm.
