Update:

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 12, 2026) – Detectives have identified the victim as Abel Alejandro Unzicker Chavez (36, Snellville).  Derrick Devon Thomas (30, Snellville) has been charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm during a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.  Detectives are still investigating what led up to the shooting.

(Snellville, Ga., Jan. 11, 2026) – At approximately 3:10 a.m., officers from the South Precinct responded to a person down call on the 3800 block of Saddle Ridge Drive in unincorporated Snellville.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male deceased from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Homicide detectives have responded to the scene and are currently questioning witnesses. The Crime Scene Unit is processing the scene and gathering evidence. 

This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no immediate danger to the public. The victim’s name will be released following the notification of next-of-kin.
