Water Pressure and Temperature
Low Water Pressure
Low water pressure is most commonly due to issues with the home pressure-reducing valve, also known as a relief valve. These valves are the responsibility of the homeowner, and the Department of Water Resources (DWR) does not send personnel to investigate or repair them. The easiest way to evaluate the source of your low water pressure is to check your front spigot. If the pressure is good at the spigot, the issue is likely due to a problem with your relief valve, and it may need to be replaced by a plumber.
- If the pressure is low both inside the home and at your front spigot, check your water meter.
- Make sure that the dial is not spinning and is working normally.
- If the dial is not spinning and the meter is in the "ON” position, contact us for a flow test—a tech will pull the meter on the County side and check it.
- If there is water on the County side of meter, the homeowner is charged a $145.00 service charge (5/8 to 1” meter) and will then have to call a plumber. Meters that are 1½” and larger incur a $350.00 charge.
- If there is no water on the County side of meter, a new service line is installed.
Hot Water and Water Temperature
In Gwinnett County, DWR does not control the temperature of the water in your home. If you are experiencing a lack of hot water, it is likely due to an issue with your hot water heater. Please contact a plumber or other contractor.
