The Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services is the largest fire service district in Georgia, protecting over 1 million people across 437 square miles. Our department is organized into four core divisions to ensure rapid emergency response and proactive community safety.

Community Risk Reduction

This division identifies and minimizes hazards before an emergency occurs. By merging the former Prevention and Enforcement team into a unified structure, the Fire Marshal’s Office and Fire Investigations can better analyze safety trends. The division also provides life-saving training and senior safety programs to keep residents informed and prepared.

Business Services

Business Services manages the essential infrastructure and financial health required to support our field personnel. This team oversees the department budget, EMS billing, and payroll while maintaining a consolidated warehouse for equipment. They also ensure that all emergency vehicles and fire stations remain well-maintained and ready for service.

Employee Support and Training

This division invests in our workforce to maintain a professional force of over 1,000 members. The Training Academy provides rigorous instruction for recruits and ongoing education for veterans to keep their skills sharp. Additionally, staff manage recruiting, hiring, and employee wellness programs to ensure our team is healthy and well-prepared to serve.

Operations

Operations manages 31 fire stations and responds to over 100,000 calls annually. Every engine and medic unit is staffed with paramedics and EMTs to provide advanced life support for fire and medical emergencies. This division also maintains specialized teams for technical rescue and hazardous materials to ensure a professional response to any crisis.
