Original, 06/10/2015, 11:30am:

(Lawrenceville, Georgia) On Tuesday, June 9, at around 2:30am, the 911 Center received an emergency call from a female who was screaming that someone broke into her house.  A man’s voice was heard in the background.  The female was unable to have a conversation with the 911 call-taker because she was being assaulted.  Using triangulation, the dispatcher determined that the incident location was 230 Saratoga Drive in Lawrenceville.

Officers assigned to the South Precinct traveled to the home and located a broken glass window in the back.  A piece of patio furniture was located just through the broken glass in the kitchen.  There was a lot of blood on the window and floor.  The officers could hear a young female screaming inside the home.  One officer kicked in the patio door, and they made entry.  They followed the sounds of the screams and a trail blood.

The officers discovered a nude, black male covered in blood, sweat, and water standing near the bathroom shower beating two females (age 73 and 14).  The 73-year old grandmother was unresponsive, and the 14-year old was standing over her.  The entire shower and most of the walls and floor were covered in blood.  The officers gave verbal commands to the suspect, Andre Burton (age 32).  When Burton didn’t comply with the officer’s commands, he was Tasered.  Once the suspect was handcuffed, he was escorted out of the home.

While awaiting the arrival of the ambulance, the officers interviewed the grandmother (who was now conscious) and her granddaughter.  The grandmother said that around 2:30am, she heard a loud noise coming from downstairs.  As she went to investigate the source of the noise, she discovered a nude, black male in her granddaughter’s room.  Both women said that they have never seen him before and didn’t know his identity.  The male began to beat, punch, and kick both of them multiple times.  At one point, he threw a printer and dresser at them demanding money.  The grandmother put her hands up to protect herself, but the suspect kept hitting her.  The suspect then made them get up and walk downstairs.  Once they were near the bottom of the stairs, the suspect pushed the grandmother to the ground.  After forcing the females through several rooms, he then told them to get into the bathroom shower to “wash the blood off.”  As the females were being beaten, the officers arrived and interrupted the assault.

Located a short distance away was the vehicle Burton drove to commit these crimes.  He had stolen the vehicle from an acquaintance on Lawrenceville Highway near Bethesda Church Road shortly before breaking into the home on Saratoga Drive.

Both females were transported to the local hospital to be treated for their injuries.  The suspect was transported to the hospital prior to being taken to the jail.

Andre Burton was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on June 9 at around 8:40am and charged with the following crimes:

  • Theft by Taking
  • Battery
  • Kidnapping
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Aggravated Battery

  • Public Indecency
  • Cruelty to Children
