Purpose
The Code Enforcement section is dedicated to educating and informing citizens of the codes and ordinances established for the county by the Board of Commissioners, which set minimum requirements and standards regarding property and structures to promote and protect the public health, safety, and general welfare of all its citizens.
Scope
The Gwinnett County Code Enforcement Unit is responsible for enforcing the Gwinnett County Occupational Tax and Business Regulation Ordinance, the Property Maintenance Ordinance, the Sign Ordinance, the Vacant/Foreclosed Real Property Registration Ordinance, and the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) within the unincorporated areas of Gwinnett County only. For properties located within a city limit, please contact that city.
Penalties
Citation cases are heard in the Environmental Division of Recorders Court at 115 Stone Mountain Street in Lawrenceville. Each ordinance lists its penalties. For example, Property Maintenance violations are subject to a minimum $250 fine, not to exceed $1000 per day. Each day the violation continues shall be deemed a separate offense. Habitual violators are subject to 60 days in jail.
