Purpose

Scope
The Gwinnett County Quality of Life Unit is responsible for enforcing the Gwinnett County Occupational Tax and Business Regulation Ordinance, the Property Maintenance Ordinance, the Sign Ordinance, the Solid Waste Ordinance, the Vacant/Foreclosed Real Property Registration Ordinance, and the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) within the unincorporated areas of Gwinnett County only. For properties located within a city limit, please contact that city.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY TENANTS: Gwinnett County does not have a maintenance code requiring landlords to maintain certain living conditions. You may contact the Georgia Department of Community Affairs at 404.679.4940 or www.dca.ga.gov for additional resources on landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities.

Penalties
Citation cases are heard in the Environmental Division of Recorders Court at 115 Stone Mountain Street in Lawrenceville. Each ordinance lists its penalties. For example, Property Maintenance violations are subject to a minimum $250 fine, not to exceed $1000 per day. Each day the violation continues shall be deemed a separate offense. Habitual violators are subject to 60 days in jail.
