Update #2, 02/07/2017: The lead investigator has identified Nickolas Young (age 19) as the shooter in this homicide.  After the surveillance images were released to the media and the general public, the Gwinnett County Police Department received several tips about the identity of the suspect.

Update #1, 02/04/2017: The victim has been identified as Mr. Vitali Mialik (34) of Suwanee.

Additional information reveals that there are two suspects in the homicide.

Through their investigation, Homicide Investigators learned that the victim, Vitali Mialik, went to the gas station to purchase items from the store. While at the gas station, a vehicle carrying the two (2) suspects arrived. The two suspects exited their vehicle and went inside the store. The suspected shooter purchased items from the store and was recorded on video surveillance cameras. The other suspect made no purchases and was not seen on the cameras. As the suspects left the store and began driving away they got into a verbal argument with the victim, who was standing in the parking lot. The argument escalated and the driver/shooter retrieved an assault rifle from the vehicle and shot the victim. Witnesses described the suspect’s vehicle as a white or silver SUV, possibly a Toyota 4- Runner or similar type vehicle.

At this time, both suspects are considered armed and dangerous.  Anyone who recognizes the pictured suspects or has additional information about the homicide is requested to contact Crime Stoppers or the GCPD Homicide Unit (770-513-5300), and of course, we would also encourage the suspects to turn themselves in.

SUSPECT DESCRIPTIONS:

Suspect 1 (driver/shooter) - Black male, 18-25 years old, 5’9-6’0 tall, with a slim build (150-170)

Suspect 2- This suspect can only be described as being 18-25 years old with average height and build

Original, 02/04/2017: (Norcross, Georgia) Gwinnett County Police are investigating the shooting death of a male at a gas station in Norcross. On February 3, 2017 at approximately 11:13pm Gwinnett County Police Officers responded to 1795 Beaver Ruin Road (Valero Gas Station) in reference to a person shot. Upon arrival officers located a male on the ground in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound. The male was later pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses stated that there was an altercation in the parking lot between the victim and a black male. After firing the lone shot, the black male got into a light colored SUV and fled the scene.

Gwinnett County Police Homicide Investigators and the Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene.  Investigators are speaking with potential witnesses and trying to determine the cause of the shooting.  The relationship between the victims is unknown at this time.
