Homicide: Tye Hardin (age 4)
(Lawrenceville, Georgia)On Saturday, April 25 at around 11pm, the Gwinnett County 911 Center received information that a 4-year old boy was currently on life-support at Scottish Rite Hospital.He had been admitted with significant trauma to his head and brain.(He had been originally transported to Gwinnett Medical Center Duluth and then transferred to Scottish Rite.)
According to the initial report, Tierra Green (age 25), left her son Tye Hardin (age 4) with her boyfriend, Steven Singleton (age 26), while she went back to her home to get ready for an event later that evening.Singleton resides at 411 Club Lakes Parkway in Lawrenceville.After getting ready and driving back to her boyfriend’s apartment, she received a phone call from Singleton about her son.Singleton told her that something was wrong with Tye and that she needed to hurry up.When she arrived at Singleton’s home, she found him in the bathroom with her son.Tye was carried to the sofa in the living room, and 911 was called.
Rather than wait for the ambulance, the couple transported Tye to North Georgia Urgent Care located at 1630 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.The staff told them that Tye needed to be treated at a hospital, so their staff called 911.
Singleton told the initial responding officer the following information about the incident:
·Tye was sitting in a chair in the living room eating some food and watching TV. while he was in the bathroom getting ready for the event.
·From the bathroom, Singleton told Tye to get up and get ready.
·While still in the bathroom, Singleton heard a loud “thump.”
·Singleton went to the living room and saw Tye on the floor lying on his back unresponsive.
·When he approached Tye, he noticed that his eyes were “rolled back.”
·Singleton said that Tye had wet and soiled clothes.
·He said that as he was carrying Tye to the bathroom, he accidentally hit Tye’s head on the wooden door frame.
·Singleton noticed a bump on the right side of Tye’s head the size of a golf ball.
·Tye’s mother arrived shortly thereafter.
When Tye arrived at the hospital, he had no brain activity and was placed on life-support.
On Monday, April 27 at around 3am, life-support procedures were concluded and Tye Hardin died from his injuries.
It is noted in the report that Tye had a bruise on the right side of his forehead and on his right cheek.He also had bruises on the right side of his chest and under his right arm.
On Wednesday, April 29, the lead detective assigned to this case interviewed Singleton at GCPD Headquarters.Based on the interview, the detective found that Singleton’s account of events and Tye’s injuries were inconsistent.Singleton was arrested and charged with Felony Murder and Cruelty to Children 1st Degree.
