Community Risk Reduction
|

The Community Risk Reduction Division is responsible for fire investigations, fire inspections, and fire code enforcement within the county. This division also investigates citizen complaints regarding fire and life safety hazards and enforces compliance with state and county burning regulations. Prevention and Enforcement is responsible for fire code inspections, new construction inspections, compliance inspections, and high risk occupancies. To schedule your inspection, please follow the instructions listed below in the Prevention and Enforcement section. All inspections must be scheduled using the automated system. The Public Information and Education section is responsible for all media contacts for emergency and non-emergency events relating to Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services, and handles all public education, including fire and life safety courses, CPR and first aid, and station tours. This Section also coordinate partnerships with communities and businesses to further the goals of reducing risk in the community. Fire Investigations is responsible for investigating all arson cases during and after fires. All fire investigators are certified Fire/Arson Investigators as well as certified Peace Officers.

Notice of new fee schedule

Beginning January 1, 2011, the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services’ Community Risk Reduction division (Fire Marshal’s Office) will begin assessing a re-inspection fee for all failed inspections. For more information, please review the following documents.

The Community Risk Reduction Division uses the following codes: 1995 Gwinnett County Ordinance for Fire Protection and Life Safety, the current edition of the NFPA Codes and Standards as adopted and modified by the State Fire Marshal, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code 2000 Edition, International Fire Code 2006 Edition, OCGA Titles 25 and 30 Georgia Accessibility Code. Burn Day Information
|
|
Friday January 27, 2012 is a NO burn day in Gwinnett County. Less than 24 hours since front has gone through. High moisture content remaining produces excessive smoke and can be a health hazard. Winds gusts to 25 MPH today.
Burning Banned May 1 – September 30
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has issued a ban on open burning May 1 – September 30 of each year. Fifty-four counties in Georgia (including Gwinnett County) are affected. Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services are responsible for the enforcement of this state-issued burning ban within the County.
From May 1 – September 30, you may not burn leaves, tree limbs, or other yard waste, forest land, or use air curtain destructors for land clearing. Sunday is NOT a Burn Day as prescribed by Gwinnett County Code of Ordinances, Chapter 46, Fire Prevention and Safety.

Requesting a Fire Inspection/Reporting a Fire Code Violation Fire inspections scheduled prior to 2:00pm will be scheduled the following business day as determined by inspection volume for that day. Fire inspections scheduled after 2:00pm will receive second-day service as determined by inspection volume for that day.
