Mission Statement

The mission of the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation is to enhance quality of life by facilitating the mobility of people and goods safely and efficiently. This mission is accomplished by planning, constructing, operating, and maintaining aviation, transit, and surface transportation systems in Gwinnett.

Department Overview

Gwinnett Transportation maintains a comprehensive infrastructure system that includes more than 2,650 miles of roadway, 775 signalized intersections, thousands of miles of traffic striping, the Ride Gwinnett transit service, and one of the busiest airports in Georgia. The department carries out its mission with more than 215 approved full-time positions and an adopted operating budget exceeding $77.89 million across multiple funds.

Transportation System Highlights

The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation maintains:

  • More than 2,650 centerline miles of roadway
  • Approximately 2,500 miles of sidewalk
  • 200 bridges and bridge culverts
  • 100,000 roadway signs
  • 775 traffic signals and 469 traffic control beacons
  • 519 cameras and 415 miles of fiber optic cable
  • 48 transit buses serving 10 local routes and 3 commuter routes 
  • 25 microtransit and paratransit vehicles
  • 500 acres at the Gwinnett County Airport – Briscoe Field
