LILBURN HOUSE FIRE CLAIMS ONE LIFE
(Lilburn, Ga., Jan. 11, 2026) – Firefighters responded at 6:23 p.m. to a report of a house fire at the 200 block of Sandra Drive in Lilburn. The 911 caller advised that the house was burning, and people were still inside the home.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a working fire at a two-story residence, with reports of a male still inside the home. Upon arrival, Lilburn Police Officers assisted with door control while firefighters performed a rescue of one victim from the entryway of the home. While investigating, firefighters found heavy fire in the garage and main living area that extended into the attic. Firefighters deployed two 1¾-inch hose lines and one 2 ½-inch hose line to extinguish the flames. The primary and secondary searches of the home revealed no additional victims inside the home. The house sustained extensive fire damage to the garage, main living area, and attic. Extensive water and smoke damage was found throughout the main living area. Medical crews on the scene were utilized to rehab all firefighters and transport one victim with life-threatening injuries. One Lilburn Police Officer with minor injuries was assessed and released at the scene. An additional patient was assessed and released at the scene as well.
Two occupants were home at the time of the incident. An occupant noticed the home was on fire and woke his mother to start evacuating. The neighbor states he assisted the mother out of the home before the firefighters’ arrival. After the mother was evacuated, the son reentered the home to rescue the family dog, where he succumbed to the smoke conditions. No smoke alarms were active at the time of the fire. Two adults were affected by and displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross was requested by the homeowner.
A Fire Investigator responded to the scene for origin and fire cause. Fire Investigators deemed the fire under investigation.
