(Duluth, Georgia)  The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) investigated a traffic fatality that occurred on Saturday, May 11.  The collision occurred around 6 AM on Interstate 85 NB, north of Pleasant Hill Rd., in unincorporated Duluth.   

An occupied, disabled vehicle on the right shoulder of the interstate was struck from behind by a driver failing to maintain lane, pushing the disabled vehicle back into traffic. The disabled vehicle was then struck by a tractor-trailer and caught fire. Although passerby were able to pull the driver of the disabled vehicle to safety, he subsequently passed away from his injuries.   

The deceased party has been identified as Najee Clarke, 24, of Lawrenceville.

The at-fault driver has been identified as Amanda Parker, 33, of Norcross.

Parker was subsequently charged with DUI and Homicide by Vehicle – 1^st Degree.
