Open Records Requests
The Online Open Records Request Form may be used to request access to documents maintained by the department to inspect or obtain copies under the Georgia Open Records Act. This form is not required to request routinely available records such as agendas, minutes, plats, ordinances, and resolutions. Although Open Records Requests are not required to be submitted in writing, use of this form will aid considerably in ensuring that each request is fulfilled as accurately as possible.

However for copies of Residential Plats (Surveys) and Final Subdivision Plats please call the Deeds and Records office at 770.822.8100. These documents are not available at the Department of Planning and Development. In addition, Gwinnett County does not maintain copies of Residential House Plans for homes that are less than 5,000 square feet of heated floor area in size. If your home is less than 5,000 square feet, please contact the home builder. Please call the Building Permits Section at 678.518.6020 for assistance.

Fire Prevention and Protection Ordinance
The Gwinnett County Fire Plan Review Section uses the following codes: 2012 Gwinnett County Fire Prevention and Protection Ordinance, the current edition of the NFPA Codes and Standards as adopted and modified by the State Fire Marshal, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code 2000 Edition, International Fire Code 2006 Edition, OCGA Titles 25 and 30 Georgia Accessibility Code.

Procedures For Obtaining A Permit

Fire Alarm System Permitting Requirements
The Gwinnett County Fire Plan Review Section uses the NFPA Life Safety Code 101 2000 Edition, and the National Fire Alarm Code NFPA 72 2002 Edition. Please complete the Fire Alarm Check List Form (PDF) and submit it along with your fire alarm plans.

Fire Sprinkler Systems And Rack Storage Permitting Requirements
Please complete the Automatic Fire Sprinkler System Worksheet and submit the form with your sprinkler system plans. For sprinkler system or rack storage questions, please contact Steve Collins at 678.518.6103 or email steve.collins@gwinnettcounty.com.


Commercial Kitchen Hood Requirements
Any commercial establishment that produces grease-laden vapors or smoke requires a kitchen ventilation system. A permit shall be obtained from the Gwinnett County Fire Plan Review Section before the installation of a system. This permit will be issued to an appropriate licensed contractor.
