ARSON TO BLAME FOR VACANT HOUSE FIRE NEAR SNELLVILLE

(Snellville, Ga., April 26, 2016) – Firefighters responded on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 9:10a.m., to a neighbor report of smoke coming from a vacant house in the 3400 Block of Palisade Court, SW in (unincorporated) Snellville. 

Crews arrived to find an active fire on the interior of a single-story wood frame house.  The blaze was quickly extinguished by first arriving firefighters.  There was no one at the house when the fire department arrived and no injuries were reported.  The fire caused extensive damage to the interior of the structure. 

Fire Investigators were requested to respond due to evidence of an intentionally set fire.  The blaze has been ruled an act of arson and is currently under further investigation.  Fire Investigators are not releasing specific information about the evidence, but did label the fire as incendiary.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Gwinnett Fire Investigations Section at 678.518.4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1.800.282.5804.  Georgia Arson Control, Inc. offers a reward of UP TO $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for arson.  Arson is a serious felony crime and is punishable by one to 20-years imprisonment and associated fines.

Neighbors in the community should be alert to their surroundings and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police by calling 9-1-1.
