UPDATE: Homicide Investigation at Teen House Party Victim Identified

(July 16, 2016, 7:30 p.m.) Gwinnett County Police are identifying the decedent as 17 year old Jahlah Branch of Lithonia. Police are following several leads in the investigation. According to witness statements, there were approximately 100 people at the party. During the altercation, several people produced firearms and began shooting. Police are urging parents whose kids may have attended the party to come forward with information about what happened.  

 

(July 16, 2016, 2:00 a.m.) Gwinnett County Police are investigating the shooting death of a teen in Snellville who was attending a house party. The incident began on the 2900 block of Aviator Circle in Snellville around 12:30 am when a person shot call was received by police. Police arrived to learn that a teen party with approximately 30 to 40 people led to a dispute between several people. During the dispute, multiple shots were fired. After the shots, one male was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head. The suspect and others fled the scene. There is no definitive description of the suspect at this point. 

 

Homicide detectives are at the scene and interviewing numerous witnesses. We strongly urge any parent in this area whose kids may have been at the party to come forward to police. A name for the victim will be released pending next of kin notification. The loss of life for such a young person is always a tragedy. Our primary objective at this point is to conduct a thorough investigation and paint a clear picture for exactly what led to this homicide.
