Shooting - SWAT Standoff, Glenbrook Dr, Tucker

Update #3, 01/22/2018: Lance Walburn (suspect) and Crystal Bell (victim) were neighbors.  They lived a few houses away from one another.  Late Friday night into Saturday morning, Lance was at Crystal’s home, along with several others, drinking and hanging out.  Crystal offered to walk Lance home (about 1 minute walking distance).  Crystal told the responding officers that Lance began to attack her as he was making entry into his home.  She fought back.  Lance grabbed a firearm and shot Crystal as she was fleeing.  According to the initial police report, Lance also shot his female yellow lab.

Lance armed himself as patrol officers and members of the SWAT Team arrived.

At around 7:35am, the suspect committed suicide. Lance’s motivations for attacking his neighbor and then shooting her are unknown.

Crystal’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.  Her current condition is unknown.  Lance’s dog was taken for treatment at a local vet.  The veterinary hospital where the dog is being treated has been in contact with Lance’s family members about the care of the animal.

Update #2, 01/20/2018:

The suspect in this case has been identified as Lance Walburn (34). Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shooting. The victim, Crystal Bell, is currently listed as being in stable condition, although the extent of her injuries is still unknown.

The Gwinnett County Police Department would like to thank all of the citizens in the surrounding area of the incident for their patience and cooperation during this time.

Update #1, 01/20/2018:

At approximately 7:15am, the suspect was spotted outside of the residence and began fleeing on foot.  The Gwinnett County SWAT Team was able to successfully contain the suspect’s movements as he attempted to flee through multiple backyards on Glenbrook Drive. As the suspect neared Old Norcross Tucker Road, still traveling through backyards, he produced a handgun and shot himself one time. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were involved in the shooting and none were injured during the incident. The identity of the suspect is still being withheld pending further investigation and notification of next of kin. There is still no update on the victim’s condition.
