DEPARTMENT OF WATER RESOURCES RECOGNIZES WATER PROFESSIONALS APPRECIATION DAY AND NATIONAL DRINKING WATER WEEK

(Lawrenceville, Ga., May 7, 2018) — May offers a number of opportunities for Gwinnett County residents and business owners to learn how water professionals keep our water flowing, wastewater treated and streams clean.

Monday, May 7 is Water Professionals Appreciation Day. The Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources will have a special recognition of the work employees do every day to manage the water resources in Gwinnett County. The dedicated work of water professionals often goes unseen as they ensure that water coming from the tap is clean and safe, wastewater is properly treated and returned to the environment and streams and watersheds are protected.

A video highlighting the work of Water Professionals in Gwinnett can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/268011302.

This year, Water Professionals Appreciation Day falls within National Drinking Water Week, May 6 – 12. As the weather heats up, staying hydrated is important. Fortunately, Gwinnett County residents can drink freely with the knowledge that their tap water comes from safe, award-winning facilities. The County’s two water production facilities, Shoal Creek and Lanier Filter Plants, have won numerous awards from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP).

On Saturday, May 19, residents are invited to learn about the water production processes at the Shoal Creek Filter Plant’s annual open house and festival. Join Department of Water Resources employees from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for an event featuring kids’ activities, crafts, games, fairground food and tours of the Shoal Creek Filter Plant. The Shoal Creek Filter Plant is located at 1755 Buford Dam Road in Buford. For more information, call 678.376.6722.
