Atlanta, Nov. 8, 2017 – Superior Court Judge Randolph G. “Randy” Rich of the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit has been designated to serve in place of Justice Michael P. Boggs in the appeal of Hines v. State (S17G0024). The Supreme Court of Georgia will hear arguments in the case Nov. 13, 2017, during its 10:00 A.M. session. In this Fulton County case, a man is appealing his armed robbery conviction, arguing that his trial attorney was ineffective, in violation of his constitutional rights, for failing to challenge an indictment that was “fatally flawed.” In addition to hearing arguments, Judge Rich will participate in the Court's decision.

Judge Rich, 50, was appointed to the Superior Court by Governor Nathan Deal in May 2014. He was reelected in 2016. Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, he was elected to the Gwinnett State Court in 2004. Before his judicial service, Judge Rich was a litigation partner in the law firm of Rich & Smith in Lawrenceville, GA.

Judge Rich is a native of Gwinnett County and graduated from South Gwinnett High School. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and his law degree from Georgia State University College of Law. He is a graduate of Leadership Gwinnett.

Judge Rich currently serves as a Master on the Bleckley Inn of Court. He has taught as an adjunct law professor at Georgia State University College of Law, Emory University Law School and John Marshall Law School. He currently presides over the Gwinnett Drug Court and the Gwinnett Business Court.

Judge Rich is married to Bonnie Rich, a practicing attorney in Gwinnett. They have two children.
