FIRE DAMAGES TWO GUEST ROOMS AT HOTEL IN NORCROSS

(Norcross, Ga., Sept. 26, 2020) – Firefighters responded at 6:31 p.m. to a report from Norcross Police of a fire at the Knights Inn Hotel, located at 5122 Brook Hollow Parkway, NW in Norcross. An officer was driving past the hotel on the way home from work and saw black smoke coming from the building. The officer notified dispatch via radio and began evacuating the building.

Firefighters arrived to find a working fire in a guest room with flames and smoke showing from the single-story structure. Crews deployed fire attack and water supply hose lines and made immediate entry to control the blaze and conduct a primary search. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames using tank-water from the primary engine at 6:42 p.m. The fire caused heavy damage to the room of origin and minor damage to an adjoining guest room. There was extensive smoke throughout the entire structure.

Approximately 40 people were temporarily displaced from the building until the situation was declared under control and residual smoke was cleared from inside the structure. There were no injuries reported. Power was able to be isolated to the affected rooms and all other guests were allowed to return to their rooms.

Fire Investigators were requested to respond to the scene to assist with origin and cause determination. The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under active investigation.
