FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE MORNING APARTMENT AND BUSINESS FIRE IN SNELLVILLE

(Snellville, Ga., October 6, 2022) – Firefighters responded to two separate structure fires this morning in Snellville. The first fire dispatched was an apartment fire. Shortly thereafter, a second fire was dispatched at a restaurant.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of an apartment fire on the 3000 Block of Spruce Circle SW in Snellville at 8:53 a.m. The caller stated that there was smoke coming from the windows and roof line of an apartment. The caller said no one was answering at the door of the apartment unit involved.
Fire crews arrived on the scene to find a two-story, multi-family dwelling on a basement with smoke showing. Firefighters deployed two 1 ¾ - inch handlines to combat the flames, encountering fire on the second floor. An adult female, who was sleeping on a couch inside the fire unit, was awoken by fire crews forcing entry through the front door. Firefighters escorted her outside the apartment. The completion of a primary and secondary search of the four apartment units within the building confirmed that there were no other persons inside the building. The fire was knocked down by 9:08 a.m. Fire crews utilized atmospheric meters as a precaution before allowing occupants to return to their apartment units.
There were no injuries reported during this incident. There were no working smoke alarms found inside the fire apartment. This fire has displaced four adult residents and six pets who are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire to be electrical.

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 5- Engines, 2- Ladder Trucks, 1- Rescue, 2- Medic Units, 2- Command Staff Units, 3- Fire Investigators, 1- Air and Light Unit, and 1- PIO. A total of 35 fire personnel responded.

Shortly thereafter, firefighters were dispatched to a report of a business fire at 4051 Stone Mountain Highway SW in Snellville at 10:30 a.m. Fire crews arrived on the scene to find a single-story, strip mall with smoke showing from the roof of a restaurant. Firefighters deployed one 1 ¾ - inch handline to combat the flames, encountering a fire in the kitchen. All employees had escaped the business before the arrival of fire crews. Eight businesses adjacent to the affected unit were evacuated during fire control activities. The completion of a primary and secondary search confirmed the absence of any victims inside the building. The fire was knocked down by 10:49 a.m.
There were no injuries reported during this incident. A fire suppression system was activated by the fire. Fire damage was contained to the area of origin. Fire investigators determined this to be a cooking fire.
