SUSPICIOUS FIRE DAMAGES VEHICLES

(Norcross, Ga., August 14, 2020) – An overnight fire that caused heavy damage to three vehicles behind a Norcross business is believed to be an act of arson. Firefighters were called to the scene around 12:35am on Friday, August 14, 2020. A passerby saw smoke and flames coming from the vehicles in the parking lot at the C & D Auto Performance.

Firefighters arrived to find two sedans and a box truck engulfed in flames. Crews obtained a positive water supply from a nearby hydrant and deployed a fire attack hose line to extinguish the blaze. The fire destroyed all three vehicles and caused moderate-cosmetic damage to three additional vehicles parked in close proximity.

A Fire Investigator responded to the scene to conduct an origin and cause investigation. The automotive shop was closed at the time of the fire and no one was at the business when fire crews arrived. There was no indication of an engine compartment fire in any of the vehicles and no other reason for the fire to have ignited. According to the Fire Investigator, unknown person(s) may have gained unlawful access to the property and intentionally set the fire. Anyone with information about the blaze is asked to contact the Gwinnett Fire Investigations Section at 678.518.4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1.800.282.5804.

Georgia Arson Control, Inc. offers a reward of UP TO $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for arson. Arson is a serious felony crime and is punishable by imprisonment and associated fines.
