HOMICIDE – STONE MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY, STONE MOUNTAIN

UPDATE #1: The decedent has been identified as Harris Baysassie (age 21, Lilburn).

Working around the clock, detectives identified the suspects as Tristyn Derriun Mays (age 17, Lawrenceville) and Nyzerrius Carter (age 19, Lawrenceville).

Both Mays and Carter have been arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.  Mays has been charged with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault. Carter has been charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Tampering with Evidence.

Detectives are still working to identify any additional suspects who may be involved in this crime. Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 404.577.8477 with relevant information. Tipsters could be eligible for a cash reward.

 

ORIGINAL: (Stone Mountain, Ga., July 17, 2023) – The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating a shooting in the parking lot of a local restaurant that left one man dead.

At around 10:30 p.m., officers assigned to the South Precinct were dispatched to a “person shot” call in the parking lot of the Applebee’s located at 5200 Stone Mountain Highway in unincorporated Stone Mountain.

The victim was found in the parking lot between the Applebee’s and O’Reilly Auto Parts. Shortly after arriving at a local hospital, the victim died as a result of his injuries. 

Detectives are looking into the possibility that there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and the victim. Local businesses are being canvassed for any relevant surveillance footage.

There is nothing to indicate that the victim had dined at the restaurant prior to the shooting.

The victim’s name will be released once his next of kin has been notified.
