Woman Dies from House Fire, Driver Charged with Murder

(Suwanee, Georgia)  A Duluth man has been charged with Murder in reference to an early morning car crash from late last month.  On Monday, January 21, officers assigned to the Central Precinct along with the Gwinnett County Fire Department were dispatched to a residential fire at 2929 Meadow Church Road in unincorporated Suwanee at around 5 AM.  When the officers arrived, they discovered that a vehicle struck the side of the home, and the vehicle and home caught fire.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

Janet Keenan (age 72, Suwanee) was inside the home at the time of the collision.  Though she tried to exit the home, she eventually went unconscious.  Once GCFD arrived, they transported her to a local hospital for treatment.

The vehicle (grey 2004 Toyota Camry) was impounded to GCPD HQ for processing.

The lead investigator assigned to the case identified the driver was Ayron A. Poche (age 24, Duluth).  Four days after the collision, Poche was arrested and charged with Hit and Run (felony), Serious Injury by Vehicle, Duty Upon Striking an Unattended Vehicle (2 counts), Duty Upon Striking a Fixture, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Duty to Report an Accident, Expired License, and Driving without a Valid License.  He was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.

On Monday, February 4, the investigator learned that Janet Keenan died as a result of her injuries on February 2.

Because of Janet’s death, Ayron is now being charged with Felony Murder and Criminal Damage to Property 2nd Degree.  He is still incarcerated at the Gwinnett County Jail.
