GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK FOR THE 2040 UNIFIED PLAN AT COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE MEETINGS

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 10, 2018) –The 2040 Unified Plan and the Future Development Map will be available for public viewing, review and feedback at a series of community open house sessions from Aug. 13toAug. 30.

The Department of Planning and Development and its consultant, Pond & Company, will present draft goals or themes relating to economic development, redevelopment, transportation, housing and other issues, along with policies to help achieve those goals.

The presentation is a big-picture look at how the county could develop over the next 22 years. In addition to updating the 2030 Unified Plan, it ties together a number of recently adopted blueprints for the future, such as the Comprehensive Transportation Plan, the Transit Development Plan and the Countywide Trails Master Plan.

The presentation resembles a self-guided tour with planning staff and consultants posted at different stations to answer questions. The tour starts with the posters explaining initial input from the public. The open house also presents needs facing the county and the opportunities they offer. The draft plan includes various policy recommendations and specific projects. The tour concludes with a future development map that shows where various kinds of commercial, residential and industrial development — and redevelopment — could go.

The plan is framed around five themes: Maintain Economic Development and Fiscal Health; Foster Redevelopment; Maintain Mobility and Accessibility; Provide More Housing Choices; and Keep Gwinnett a “Preferred Place.”

Early development of the 2040 plan involved public input from numerous open house meetings, events and a survey plus input from various stakeholders and technical groups. That input was incorporated in many ways into the draft on display at the community meetings. For example, the plan takes into account previous public input about areas where people want more dense development and areas they want to preserve.

At the upcoming August meetings, visitors  can write down their reaction and suggestions. Feedback will be considered by the 2040 Unified Plan team as they finalize the plan for approval by the Board of Commissioners in October for submittal to the Atlanta Regional Commission.
