GWINNETT TAKES PROACTIVE STEPS TO BEGIN WORK ON DISPARITY STUDY

Study will provide comprehensive analysis of current and historical procurement practices

(Lawrenceville, Ga., March 5, 2023) – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to inclusivity and economic success by approving a contract with consulting firm Griffin & Strong, P.C., to conduct the County’s first disparity study.

The primary objective for the study is to provide a comprehensive analysis of current and historical procurement and contracting data. The examination will identify any disparities or barriers that may exist within the County’s purchasing and contracting policies and practices.

“In Gwinnett, our diversity is our greatest strength, and it is imperative that our procurement processes reflect these values,” said Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. “The critical findings from this study will ensure the County is well equipped to address the barriers in procurement opportunities faced by our diverse businesses. I look forward to the work ahead as we identify responsive action while launching meaningful initiatives that promote inclusion in our government contracting practices.”

During their annual strategic planning session in 2022, commissioners reaffirmed their commitment to the County’s vision as “the preferred community where everyone thrives.” A key deliverable arising from the session was to develop a request for proposals for a disparity study of procurement activities that would ensure any economic investments align with this vision.

“The study’s findings will serve as a critical foundation for policy evaluation and decision-making,” said County Administrator Glenn Stephens. “By providing valuable insights, Gwinnett will be empowered to consider, evaluate and analyze policies and practices with the ultimate aim of implementing effective measures that advance our status as a national benchmark community.”

Griffin & Strong, P.C., will perform the study in strict adherence to constitutional mandates, governing laws, court decisions and industry best practices.
