Since 1985, SPLOST programs have raised more than $4 billion for capital projects like County and city facilities, acres of greenspace, parks and recreation facilities, new roads and improvements, police and fire stations, and libraries around the county. When Gwinnett voters head to the polls for the November 8 General Election, they will decide on the renewal of the one-cent special purpose local option sales tax.

“SPLOST keeps Gwinnett growing in the right direction with pay-as-you-go funding for building needed projects,” Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson said. “It’s beneficial to our residents — who have come to expect top-notch services and amenities across the County — from our quality road system to our thriving senior service centers and from our supportive public safety facilities to our beautiful parks.”

SPLOST allows the County to pay for major projects with a funding source other than property tax revenue. This can include new projects or improvements to existing assets. By law, SPLOST cannot be used for day-to-day operational expenses.
